Beavers in crisis for lack of leaders

A BEAVER colony fresh from a family camp could close next month if new leaders aren’t found.
Colin Paine, Broughton Beavers group leader, and his assistant Lorretta Cookson, are looking for fresh blood to take on the running of the group.
They appealed in February this year for new leaders but after being unsuccessful, they have said if no new leaders are found the pack will fold on December 7.
Broughton Beavers was founded in 2005 after a Scouting absence of more than 15 years.
Mr Paine, who has been involved in Scouting for around 50 years, said: “We are looking for a new leader and assistant due to personal commitments.
“No experience is required – there’s a short training course and CRB check but after that they will be let loose.
“We have 17 members at present.
“The best thing about it is seeing the looks on their faces when they achieve something they think they couldn’t do.
“We have good support from parents and discipline – which a lot of young people don’t have nowadays.”
The group meets in the Parsonage Room in Market Street, Broughton, every Wednesday from 3.45pm to 5pm.
